Support and Alimony

Divorce Attorney in Fort Lauderdale and Boca Raton

Experienced Representation in Matters involving Support and Alimony

If you are considering filing for divorce or are already involved in a divorce proceeding, one of the more uncertain issues involved may be the question of alimony. Alimony or spousal support is not automatically granted in divorce proceedings. An experienced lawyer can help you determine when alimony is warranted and, if so, how much should be paid and for how long.

At the office of Alan R. Burton, Attorney at Law, I have represented men and women throughout south Florida in divorce matters for over 30 years. In my three decades of practice, I have handled many complex cases involving professionals and business owners. I have built my successful practice by providing a personal touch, working one-on-one with all my clients to find solutions that meet your specific needs. I can help you resolve issues through negotiation, but am always prepared to protect your interests in court, if necessary.

For a free initial consultation, send me an e-mail or call my office at 954-519-2314 (toll-free at 888-341-5223) to set up an appointment.

My Alimony and Spousal Support Practice

I represent either side in disputes involving alimony. I will carefully consider the factors that will be used by the court to determine whether alimony should be granted, including:

  • length of your marriage
  • the age and health of both parties
  • the need of the potential recipient as compared to the ability to pay
  • the likelihood that the potential recipient can become gainfully employed
  • whether there are minor children for whom support is being paid

I will also help determine, if alimony is granted, whether payments should be permanent, temporary (if the marriage was fairly short) or rehabilitative (designed to last long enough to allow the receiving party to complete training or education to become gainfully employed).
